CSU Port Macquarie expansion takes out Peoples Choice Award, as they continue to Grow in Regional locations

The people have voted and Lahey Constructions has another award to its name as a result. The Kempsey-based construction firm won the People’s Choice Award at the 2021 Australian Institute of Building NSW Professional Excellence in Building Awards for the Charles Sturt University Port Macquarie Campus stage 2A and 2B expansion.

The same project earned Lahey Constructions a high commendation in the commercial construction $25 million to $60 million category and a high commendation in the sustainability award.

Australian Institute of Building executive director Geoff Dart said the quality of the entries was always phenomenal and there were very worthy winners across the categories.

“Lahey’s achievements in the awards showed its commitment to regional NSW and, as evidenced in their entries, at the forefront of sustainability, quality and world leading learning and living environments,” Mr Dart said.

The awards acknowledge leadership and management teams that deliver projects with the highest level of expertise.

The Charles Sturt University Port Macquarie Campus stage 2A project featured a 90 metre-long building with additional learning and teaching spaces, a laboratory, breakout and meeting spaces, student kitchen and facilities, a space for small events and gymnasium. Car parking was part of the project.

Works in Stage 2B included the design finalisation, second stage of a courtyard precinct and a two-storey teaching and staff space, car parking and road work.

Charles Sturt University project officer Neal Molineaux said the stage 2A/2B project was one of the most professionally and successfully delivered projects at Charles Sturt.

“What is seen onsite today is nothing short of excellence, excellence that not only Bill and the extended Lahey team should be extremely proud of, but also your dedicated team of reliable subcontractors and suppliers,” he said.

Mr Maley concurred, adding the awards stood as testimony to the fantastic work and support contributed by the many local subcontractors, tradespeople and suppliers who helped complete this project.

“Lahey is extremely honoured to win these awards, yet it must be remembered that construction companies are only as good as the teams they collaborate with,” Mr Maley said. “We had a host of talented people to work with and give special thanks to not only Charles Sturt, Savills and BVN Architecture, but every single tradie we worked with – these awards are yours, too.”
